Search for an authentic representation of Vedic heritage
A Place for rejuvenation at Pollachi, Tamil Nadu.
The design scheme establishes the ambience and working of a commune consisting of diverse people, languages and cultures, true to the spirit of ‘togetherness and sharing’ as envisaged in the tradition of Vedic living. The ensemble is simultaneously reminiscent of a hermitage and a pleasure garden where the inhabitant actively participants in the environment rather than being a passive observer.
Following this, the site organisation as demonstrated in this master plan revolves around a singular large open space comprising of diverse micro landscape spaces around which varied building types and activities are positioned such that they enhance each other’s significance. This explains the proximity of thekoothambalam to the romantic ‘valley of flowers’ ; the ‘enlightment meadows’ to the research centre and (distinguished) guests’ house ; and the Ayurvedic centre to the ‘herbal garden’.
The ultimate aim of the project is the spatial rejuvenation of the visitor by re-living and participating in the glories of a highly refined classical culture according to which pleasure and relaxation are enhanced through discipline and collective participation.
